On Thursday evening, thanks to Uppsala's foreign politics club, I got to volunteer at and attend a lecture by Sweden's most famous lecturer, Hans Rosling. I'm studying development this semester, so his words were especially uplifting after reading so much about the possibility of detrimental effects of Western aid. Rosling insists that he is not an optimist, but a realist, which is a really refreshing way of seeing the world. He bases his claims entirely on new data, and the data speaks for itself.
If you've never heard of him, or if you've read everything he's ever written, take a moment to check out his ted talks. You won't be disappointed, and you'll leave more inspired than ever.
